Hello to our new Kindergartners for the 2018-19 school year! We are so excited to have you as our newest Dragons. Your adventures at Westmore Oaks are going to be awesome!
Please remember our drop off and pick up procedures posted here for you to become familiar with. With that, make sure that your teacher knows exactly how your child is getting home. Will you be picking them up? A family member/friend? The bus? This is extremely important for us to know. Please remember that anyone picking up should be listed on the emergency blue card.
As far as supplies go, we need each Kindergartner to have a plastic pencil box for their tools at their seat. The ones at WalMart that are $0.97 are perfect! We'd also like them to have 2 pencils, a box of large 8 count Crayola crayons (yes, the Crayola ones. We are learning our colors and having the same brand really helps the kids in the learning process), an eraser, a glue stick, and a bottle of white glue. Please send these items to class as soon as possible, where they will remain at school in their tool boxes. We have a lot to do and learn this year and we will be using these supplies right away!
If you have any questions, you can find our email addresses here on the website. Don't hesitate to drop us a note and we'll get back to you ASAP.
School begins at 8:00 am. It is very important for students to be on time, as class does begin right at 8:00 am. Students may be on the campus no earlier than 7:30. Yard duties will be in the cafeteria to supervise.
Students are NOT allowed on the playground without a yard duty at any time. A yard duty will be present at 7:45-8:00. At this time, you may bring your child to the Kindergarten playground where they will be supervised until the teachers gather the students at 8:00.
Dismissal is at 1:00 pm. Each Kindergarten class has a separate gate to dismiss.
Minimum day dismissal is at 11:40 and will be at the same gates.
School lunches can be paid for in the cafeteria, or online through the district website. Please discuss with your child the difference between school lunch (hot lunch) and home lunch (cold lunch), and let them know what kind of lunch they will be having each day. This helps them to remember lunches in their backpacks.
Volunteers help to make things run smoothly! We need you to volunteer!
With that said, you do have to jump through a few hoops to volunteer with children. Those hoops include a Negative TB result, and fingerprinting. The good news is, you only have to jump through the fingerprint hoop ONCE. Please consider doing so.
We would like to plan field trips and other class events and we need parents to be "Cleared". You will need this for every grade in our school as well as the entire district. If you get it done now, you will be set for your child's school career! You will have to do the TB test every few years, but the fingerprinting just ONCE!
As soon as you have completed the requirements, we will be notified and we can plan activities. Thank you for your cooperation and doing your part to our children safe!
In a couple of weeks, we will begin going to the library once a week. The kids really enjoy the check out process. They love to pick our books for the week. Please help your child remember that their book "lives" in their backpack so it will not get lost. Any books not returned have to be paid for by you!
Kindergarten students will soon be meeting their big buddies. Our classes will be meeting with older students to buddy up on projects and fun activities. This is a lot of fun and really builds the community at Westmore Oaks. More information to come.
